Reading Specialist/Dyslexia Therapist
Holly has a BSE in English from Williams Baptist University and MSE in Reading Specialist/Dyslexia Therapy from University of Central Arkansas. She is currently in training to become a Certified Academic Language Therapist.
Holly is “blessed to do life” with husband and best friend since August 2004. She admits that she wanted six children, but her husband wanted none. She laughs and points out that he was willing to have at least one. She then reveals – “we came to an agreement five kids later. We have three boys and two girls!”
She is an avid reader of fiction, and enjoys camping and bike riding. She began an interest in Dyslexia in 2013 when her oldest child was diagnosed. Later on, her husband and two other sons were diagnosed. Through her work, she hopes to empower families that are on their dyslexia journey by advocating, educating, and providing language therapy.
She shares the following story as her favorite humbling moment in therapy … “There are so many humbling moments when working with dyslexics, but my favorite is from a sweet woman. She has been functionally illiterate most of her life. When I began working with her, we did a lesson on digraph ‘ng.’ She said, ‘I never knew what that said, but now I know.’ Upon returning the next day, she admitted that she was able to help her son with his homework for the first time in her life. What was he studying? Words with ‘ng.’”
Holly continues …”My second favorite memory is from hearing my oldest reprimand my youngest kids during a lesson saying, ‘Just do what she tells you to do. She knows what she’s doing, and she can get ‘ya to read!’ It was a complete attitude change from the kids who hated our reading lessons the first few years of homeschooling.”
After Holly receives her CALT certification, she hopes to begin her doctorate in reading.
